Take your action to save the earth!updated(18 Aug.09)..:D
-walk instead of taking the vehicle
-temperature of the air-conditioner
Firstly, plant a tree. This could be easier than it sounds. Join or help out a local wildlife group and ask to plant a tree. Trees, when fully grown, will help keep the planet cooler. On the same point, you could protest against the demolition of the rainforests. This is the same principle, we need the trees to cool our planet and yet they are chopping them down to create roads or homes. Want to have a 'cooler' Earth?
Take your action now!
Secondly, something as simple as walking instead of taking the car will also help reduce pollution. As well as stopping pollution, you are giving yourself exercise, something important for our bodies. So the next time you get into your car, or your motorbike, think - do I have to make this journey by vehicle or can I walk?
Take your action now!
When you are at home, and feel a little warm. Choose a fan instead of air-conditioner. This can reduce the heat produced by the process of generating electricity for the use of air-conditioner . Through this way we can kill two birds in one stone--the cost on the electricity can be reduced as well.So try not to use the air-conditioner. The earth is having a fever.
Take your action now!

Coping with stress in societ (amend by 18/8)
- stay socialized to communicate with others
- release your stress in correct ways
- keep having own hobbies
- have designated time to rest
We could sing when we feel stressed, but we should not make noise to irritate others when we want to release our stress; we could beat the sandbag when we feel stressed, but we should not hurt others when we want to release our stress; we could even go to see a counsellor when we feel stressed, yet we should not vandalize the public properties when we want to release our stress. No matter what we do, we must ensure that we are releasing our stress in correct ways.
When you find no ways to get rid of your stress, go ahead with your own hobbies. When you are focusing on onething, the others will roll out of your mind. For once, I was stress because the most important meeting for me was coming. I didn't box myself up in my office, instead I went for a fishing. After that, I found everything is easier and finally the meeting went out well. So find your own ways to enjoy yourselves. You definitely will realize the stress is already behind head.

Encouraging citizens to engage in more sports
-More social interactions
-Discover talents
Engaging in outdoor activities for instance, sports, can benefit you in many ways; mind, body and soul.
Exercising, of course on a regular basis, would result in a healthy and fit body. You feel good, and look good! It definitely boosts one's confidence. Why coop yourself in the office? Get out into the fresh air and go for a jog! Especially for working adults, sports helps to keep our mind alert and relieves stress.
Furthermore, it improves one's sleep quality. Exercising, on a regular basis, increases the 'good' cholesterol in your blood. Illnesses such as heart disease and diabetes strike many Singaporeans yearly. You wouldn’t want your loved one suffering from these diseases and eventually, succumb to it. These illnesses have no cure but regular exercise prevents such diseases and for overweight people who stand a greater risk of suffering from such illnesses, exercise can place the illness under control so that the patients can have a more normal life. You would then be able to spend more time with your family. So what are you waiting for?
At old age, we become frail and our body weathers. Even for the elderly, exercising strengthens muscles and bones. Regular exercise will result in more flexible joints, and lesser aches and pains. For those with constipation, exercising gives us regular bowel movements, and eases constipation.
Taking up an activity can also let people engage more in terms of the social aspect. First of all, you are able to meet new people through a common hobby. It gives one a wider network of contacts by forging new relationships. This gives people, especially teenagers some positive and perfectly healthy influence.
Ultimately, exercising is proved to make us feel good, and look good. So what are you waiting for? Hurry up and pick up a tennis racket!

Animal abusers should get stiffer sentences (18/8)
- Animals have their own rights
- We should not let these abusers off easily
- Prevent more abuse and abandonment of pets
- Animals are also living things, just like us
Animal abuse cases are significantly increasing. We see more and more pets being abandoned or abused. Could this be due to the punishments not being harsh enough?
Animals have thier own rights and these rights should not be violated. We should respect them as they too have feelings, just like us. Therefore, animal discrimination should not exist in this world. We are interdependent with the environment around us, and these pets also play a vital role in the ecosystem. Pets are not our slaves.
In addition, we should not give opportunities for animal abusers to get off scot free as this would encourage them to repeat their mistakes and inflict more pain on animals. Also, stiffer punishments will prevent more abuse and abandonment of pets and this will ensure the well being of our pets. Pets are not our slaves.
Animals are living things just like us and hence they should not become the victims of our cruelty. Animals need to be nutured with love and care like humans who as well need attention and care from their families. We need to accept animals in our society and treat them as one of us. Pets are not our slaves.

future plans for schools (amended 18/8)
-wear home clothes
-start school at a later time
-More subject choices
Schools are where we,students spend large portions of our time at.
Therefore, students should definitely be permitted to wear their home clothes to school.you may ask why?why should we wear home clothes to school?Think about it.
Wearing home clothes would let us be more comfortable in our school environment and to concentrate better. It also allows us to create a sense of individual identity for ousrselves, boosting our confidence in life.
With common reports on students commiting suicide because of excessive stress, One main contributing factor is the large number of exams students have to prepare and face on a daily basis. Thus, exams in school should be reduced or held less frequently, allowing students like us to enjoy school life without feeling burdened. Would we want our fellow schoolmates to commit suicide because of an unsolved problem or because of a bad result? NO! There are no unsolved problems in the world. Always look on the bright side - After all, childhood is the best time of a person's life, isnt it?

Ban smoking in Singapore( 18.8)
-influnence the behavior of the next generation
-second-hand smoke
-causing wild fire
Smoking kills in the long run. It will destroy the lungs and cause many kinds of cancer. People who somke will have a shorter and more suffering life. Singapore has a high standard of life, we should assure that our citizens promote healthy life styles and at the same time, we should not only focus on the smokers' health but also their families'
Children see, children learn. Smoking will also influnence the behavior of the younger generations. Children grow up in the home where their parents smoke have the twice the risk of getting asthma. They will copy their parents and hence have a higher risk of smoking in the future.
New one!!!
Smoking kills in the long run. The lung cancer is one of the consequences of cigarette smoking. Patients with lung cancer can not breath smoothly and they are dying of lack of oxygen now in every party of the world. Have you ever seen lungs of them? They are horribly enlarged and thus they do not function anymore.
Most of us know that smoking can destroy our lungs, but seldom know smoking can also cause other illness. People who somke always have a shorter life with more suffering. Singapore has a high standard of life, we should assure that our citizens promote healthy life styles and at the same time, we should not only focus on the smokers' health but also their families' Children see, children learn. Smoking will also influnence the behavior of the younger generations. Children grow up in the home where their parents smoke have the twice the risk of getting asthma. The value of animals and how we ignore their existence for our own good….(18/08/2009)
-Animals have feelings too.
-Animals serve humans so we should serve them too.
Animals are living things too. Therefore, they have feelings too. We should learn to respect their feeling by not abusing them. For us we have the privellage to express our feelings, but for them? Who is going to voice out their opinions? Think about them. Put yourselves in their shoes. Then you will understand the torture that they have to go through.
The rising number of animals in the SPCA would clearly show how Singaporeans take care of their pets. There was a case where two teenage boys urinated on a kitten at Henderson Crescent on September 23rd last year.
A significant number involve the mistreatment of dogs. The types of complaints range from dogs being tied up or caged up most of the day. How would you feel if you were in that cage for the whole day?
Animals are fully dependent on us once they have entered our lives. We treat our family members with great care and concern. Similarly, we should be responsible and care for them like our own family members. Animals are not our slaves. Stop abusing them! Onward Animals!

Teenage pregnancy on the rise: how can we tackle it?
- Hold talks in schools on the consequences of teenage pregnancy
- Counsellor to come during alternate legacy periods to raise awareness through media(e.g. abortion videos) and activities (groupwork on choices to make etc)
- Put up posters/advertisments to educate public on consequences.
(ref to dengue adverts on buses)
- Set up helplines/centres who suspect that they are victims of sexual abuse.
Teenagers. Who are these people whom we classify as our "future successors"?
These people are still youths who have yet to reach adulthood, those who are easily influenced by their peers, those who still need to be taken under our wings.
These are the "vulnerables"! These are the people who will determine the future of the world.
Together, hand in hand, we will help them.
Fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, anybody who is related to the teens.
Let's guide them to the right path, let's show them the light.
let's ensure that our innocent descendants do not destroy their future in their early stages of life.
encourage counsellor can come during alternate legacy periods to raise awareness. This can be in the form of media such as abortion videos to instill fear in students about the consequences of teenage pregnancy and to prevent teenage pregnancy rates from rising any further. Next, the counsellor can also have activities such as groupwork to discuss on how to deal with the root cause of teenage pregnancy.
Health Promotion Board can put up posters or advertisments to raise awareness of the rising teenage pregnancy rates in singapore. These posters should create an impact on the public by containing horrific pictures and facts (like the dengue advertisements) and be put up at common hangouts for youths(such as shopping centres and bus stops).
In putting up the posters, the teenagers might be frightened by the consequences shown, and so they would be discouraged from taking part in these "activities".
Together, hand in hand, let's prevent these poor teeagers from destroying their lives before they reach adulthood!

[18/8] Benefits of co-educational schools
- friends from opposite sex
- create a conducive environment for learning by encouraging cooperation and interaction
- help to prepare for the future in a mixed society
Have you ever imagined what will it be like to have a boy as your deskmate, buzzing about the latest sports and games beside your ear? Have you ever discussed a Maths problem with a boy, admiring his excellent logical thinking skills? In a mixed school, everything is possible!
In a mixed school, boys and girls study under the same roof. They will discover the unique talents and abilities of the opposite sex and learn to appreciate each other. This helps to shape their characters and improve their academic performances. During co-curricular activities and project works, a group of boys and girls is likely to come up with more creative ideas due to different ways of thinking. The group discussion can thus be more productive and effective compared to a group of girls or boys only. In addition, researches have shown that the motivation to perform well and to prove yourself is stronger when you are with the opposite sex, making them more engaged in their works.
Interaction helps to wipe away discrimination and misconceptions about the opposite sex. Students can learn to deal with relationships and social issues they may face in the mixed society. This prepares them better for their future, where co-working is inevitable.
Globalisation( In the field of Education)
->Different races come together to form student body
->more interaction
->creates competitiveness amongst students, making them work harder
->sharing of different views and ideas
One for all, all for one. Increased interaction results in us better understanding each other's cultures and creates a sense of unity.Having close contact with each other, we can have a different perspective about the situation.
One for all, all for one. With people from all over the world coming together, we also get a sense of competitiveness. This makes us strive harder for excellence, thus bringing up all our standards together. In a more pressured environment, we get more motivation to achieve what we aspire for.
Look around you.You have kids from many nationalities around you, but you are still sitting here as one class, one student body. Isn't that proof enough that globalisation is really happening everywhere.I think it is.

how to ignite interest for competitions among students (18/8)
- Attractive prizes
- exposure:Meeting new people ,gaining knowledge beyond the textbooks of your normal school curriculum
-oral values like determination, teamwork etc.
- Cope stress
Students are vehemently encouraged to participate in competitions as they gain an opportunity to get vast exposure beyong their normal school curriculum.Come forth, and you will get to meet great men, who have touched the peaks of achievements so that you can get motivation to strive for the best like the great people they have met and contribute to the society in the future. Come forth , grab a chance to gain more knowledge beyond your textbooks.
Moreover, students also learn moral values of determination, teamwork and hardwork to get their goals in the competition. They experience hardships along the way and thus through this, they can lean against their own teammates for support when adverse circumstances come their way.
During my student life, i participated in the National Science Challenge through which i had an opportunity to make friends with people from various insitutions and schools. Moreover, we got a chance to know famous personalities like professor Dr David Butler.
I remember, although we lost the competition we took the failure sportingly and as a stepping stone to success .
So come forth , and you will gain experiences worth keeping in your treasure of memories forever.
Through all these experiences they encounter, they can improve on their lifeskills and it benefits not only themselves but also the society in the near future.
hence, all students should go grab every opportunity , because where else would one find such great chances in life to enrich ones character ?
Prime Minister expresses views on Singapore's ageing population(18/8)
- consequences of an ageing population
- measures to solve the problem
- proper attitude is important
The problem of an ageing population is staring us in the face. Our workforce is ageing and we are losing competitiveness to countries like India and China whose young and talented workforce are attracting the attention of Multi National Corporations. A greater percentage of the taxes you pay will go to funding for the welfare of the older generation.
Put yourself in their situation. One day you will grow old and your children will have to work so hard to support you. Take China's one child policy as an example. The only child struggles to support his parents. Do you want our children to suffer so much?
We can change this situation for the better. Chairman Mao said, 'More people, more power', so we encourage you to have more children to maintain the balance between the younger generation and the older generation in the population. Take this as your responsibilty to promote the development of our nation. What will our country's economy be like if our workforce could be younger, more talented and more refreshed?
Your future is secured.
Of course, proper attitude is important. If we are self-reliant and maintain a healthy lifestyle, we may not be a burden to our children and the government. We can re-contribute to the society because we have rich work experience.
We can unite together to solve this problem and create a better, happier and more prosperous society.
Teacher's speech before a major examination.(18/8/09)
-motivation
-encouragement
-inspiration quotes
Why do you want to do well in examinations? Is it for yourselves or for your family? Whatever the reasons, it is for your own well-being as well as a better future. The decision to excel is in your hands. You can choose the outcome, good or bad. What is good? This depends on your own personal acaedemic goal in life. It also depends on your ambition. For example, if your ambition is to be a doctor, you have to excel in your sciences. No matter what, everyone has to put in great effort in order to achieve the desired results. Imagine yourself getting your result slip, how do you want to react? Do you want to moan or do you want to celebrate? You decide!
Being a student before, i remembered how much effort i've put in to do well in each and every examination, for i know that it is for my own future. Here i am standing, telling you the importance of examinations, which is the only way to show how much students understand the lessons taught. The world is very practical. In all circumstances, they look at your results and achievements. If you had been discouraged by your previous examinations, have confidence in yourself and give your best. The result? you decide!

The Arts industry is not active enough(18/8)
a lot of people in Singapore knows about the Arts.
- How we unconsciously are in contact with the Arts in our daily lives.
- How are we able to make the Arts industry more active in Singapore.
- What Singapore should do to make their Arts more unique.
In our ever-growing society, time flies and we tend to forget about the things in life that has never really made a big impact. One of these things are the Arts. If someone were to come up to you and ask you about the Arts industry in our country, would you know what to say? Many things like Arts history and culture have been neglected by us.
Many teenagers and blue collared workers tends to listen to the radio more often that not. This is also a part of the Arts: Music. Another form of the Arts is Drama. Do you realise that the movies you watch, the drama series on the television and the school plays are all part of Drama. Often that not,we do not realise that these things are part of Art. And also the advertisements along Orchard Road, the concerts in Esplanade, the performances at the Victoria Theatre and the branded jewellery, perfume and origami, are parts and parcel of the Arts.
Let me ask you teenagers out there. Have you been to a concert in our very own Victoria Concert Hall? Foreigners come to our country and experience more of our culture in the Arts than most of us do.
We should conduct campaigns to raise the awareness of the people in our country. Campaigns can allow people to showcase their talents in the Arts. We can also create programmes to give knowledge to the lay man of Singapore. Also, to encourage positive attitudes towards the Arts, we can conduct competitions in all different forms. Also, creating innovative riddles to test teenagers on their knowledge of the Arts -as a competition. This idea can instill great interests of the Arts to teenagers whom might not be as exposed too.
encouraging a healthy lifestyle 18/8
Encouraging Singaporeans to lead a healthy lifestyle:
~stressing importance of living healthily
~minimises risks of contracting illnesses
~ways to live and eat healthily
~build exercising facilities at all neighbourhood playgrounds
Sustaining a healthy lifestyle is critical for one's well being. Not only can we cut costs on our medical expenses, but also bond with our loved ones through exercising contemporaneously. Exercising moderately benefits our body, mind and soul. It is the key to the prevention of contracting illnesses and ameliorating our ailing health. Start living healthy now!
Being educated about the need of acquiring an A grade lifestyle, our nation has implemented more frequent physical education lessons, otherwise more commonly known as PE. Our younger generation will be better equipped with knowledge on living healthily. Not neglecting the seniors of our nation, we have constructed exercising facilities at numerous neighbourhood playgrounds. Being granted the privelege of all these facilities, we should make use of our blessings and start living healthy now!
Eating. Many people perceive of it as an easy task, but in actual fact only a pocketful know how to do it the right way. There are campaigns promoting good eating habits like asking for more greens and less oil. Ask and you will receive. Henceforth, start living healthy now!

Optimism all the way (: [18.8.2009]
-A positive outlook on life.
-Being determined to strive on.
-Know that failures and success comes hand in hand.
-Making people around you optimistic.
Setting: Botanical Gardens - Open stage
“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” This was a famous quote by Winston Churchill who saw Europe through World War II. Let me read you another quote by Oscar Wilde;“Between the optimist and the pessimist, the difference is droll. The optimist sees the doughnut; the pessimist the hole!”
Any average person would look at a failure as a failure and not as a learning point. On the contrary, an optimistic person would look at a failure as a learning point. That is the way to success. Having a positive outlook on your life helps you to conquer the ups and downs on your path towards success. Its good to know that success and failures come hand in hand.
An optimistic person would look at a glass of water being half full, rather than half empty. In today's financial crisis, making your way out of that crunch is only optimism. Be optimistic. And you'll see the world in a better light. Be optimistic. And you'll see that success comes to you. Be optimistic. And you'll find that your friends will be optimistic too.
Think about anyone around you who is affirmative. For me, its Ratana. She's my classmate in Secondary Three. Her single smile will lighten up even the most tense situation. Her optimism is infectious. I feel optimistic when I'm around her too. Be optimistic. And you'll be like Ratana too.

Singapore Law should make it mandatory for all maids to have a day off every Sunday (20 Aug 09)
- take time off from work
- socialize
- work-life balance
Setting: President of TWC2 (Transient Workers Count Too) speaking at a Community Event on a Sunday
A very good morning to all. On this beautiful Sunday morning, we enjoy the warm sun together with our loved ones here, nibbling on the healthy breakfast spread as we catch up with our neighbours and simply relax on a day off from work. Imagine a scenario where your boss calls you from the office and asks that you work the whole of Sunday, up till 8pm in the night. How would you feel? This is what some domestic workers in our country go through. They arrive from a faraway country, with the only hope of earning enough to support their loved ones back at home. In this foreign land all alone, all the more they feel homesick. Yet many employers fail to see things from their perspective and continue to have this warped thinking that they are here to slog, all day, 7 days, without rest.
.....
Maids are just like one of us. We need to take time off from work in order to look after our well being, to recharge ourselves. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Imagine ourselves working 18 hour days for 7 days a week for 52 weeks a year. Goodness! We would probably collapse in exhaustion midway through the year.
Maids are just like one of us. We need to find time to socialize, be it with our friends or family. To catch up with one another, to maintain close ties with one another, to share with one another about what we are going through.
......
When you go back home today, find time to sit down with your family and discuss ways in which you can make life better for your domestic worker. It could be something as simple as letting her take breaks in between the chores everyday, or to bring her out when there are family outings to the beach. Whatever that comes to mind, try it. Think about how she would feel as a person when she starts to have these tiny yet humane privileges. With such warmth, anyone would improve in their productivity at work. With such joy, anyone would feel included as part of the family. With such understanding, anyone would pass each day feeling happy about what they are doing. With such balance, any one of us would feel peace when we go to work each day, knowing there is someone we trust at home managing the household on our behalf.
